The Valley of the Sun became Lee's adopted home in 1961 when he was driven out of Madison, Wisconsin -- in the back-seat of the family's Nash-Rambler. It was a real adventure: the family strapped a "desert water bag" to the front bumper, a mattress and a rocking-chair to the roof, and journeyed west on pre-historic Route 66 to a build new life. 

Lee's stepfather, a columnist with the Wisconsin State Journal, bought the Sunnyslope Journal and Payson Round-up newspapers which the family operated for many years. The family lived in central Phoenix, Payson and Scottsdale until 1966, when they relocated to a small town in California’s Gold Country.

Lee joined the U.S. Merchant Marines at age 19 and sailed throughout the Pacific and Southeast Asia. We'll save the sea stories for when we know you better. Upon Lee's triumphant return, he worked himself through college and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism.

For the next 15 years, Lee was a professional writer and photographer in California’s Silicon Valley. His clients included Apple Computer, Olivetti, Garmin, Magellan, Hewlett-Packard, and many other legendary high-tech giants.   

Lee married Nancy in 1984 after a magical 6-year courtship. The loving newly-weds bought their first house, a washer and dryer, a small dog, had 2 children ---- and began investing in real estate. By 1992 the family was hankering for a warmer climate and 3o million fewer people breathing down their necks, so they returned here to the land of milk and honey-colored scorpions, built a new home and started a career in real estate.
